This book is ideal for students
who have memorized words, but have not yet started to enjoy
writing. Each lesson starts with part of a story. Students learn
simple writing principles and immediately apply them. The
writing exercises are fun and encourage responses of increasing
length, expression and assuredness.
The main focus of the book is upon verbs – action and
non-action verbs; regular and irregular verbs; and verb tenses
– as well as upon descriptive writing (including how
non-action verbs can be used to enrich description).
Students learn
to write basic letters and notes, and then move into creative writing
(with plenty of scope for guessing, inventing and fun). They learn
vocabulary and there's reading comprehension. The five senses are a
prelude to descriptive writing. The grammar (tenses, prepositions, and
contractions) is both taught and practiced in context. The book is
